Jennie Gonzalez (dancer/teaching artist) Originally from Miami, Florida, Jennie Gonzalez is a first generation Cuban-American. She began dancing and touring locally in the South Florida area with a Casino/Rueda company named Grupo Arara. Jennie was also Hurricannette dancer for the University of Miami Band of the Hour where she performed countless halftime shows including the 2002 National Championship at the Rose Bowl. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Dance from Florida International University. Upon moving to LA, Jennie was awarded a spot in the Debbie Reynolds scholarship program and joined several LA based Salsa companies. Ms. Gonzalez has performed in such venues as the West Coast Salsa Congress, Latin Image Awards, and the dance drama "La Vida", among others. Jennie also has ventured into the world of belly dance.
She was a company member of Sahlala, an international dance performance company that was created by belly dance superstar Jillina. Jennie has even appeared on numerous television shows such as Disney's Wizards of Waverly, Univision's Mun2 The Roof, and Travel Channel's Get Packing. Not to mention, she was a principal dancer/teacher with the urban latin dance theater non-profit Contra-Tiempo and toured nationally/internationally. Most recently, Jennie became apart of a newly formed Salsa collaboration group named Angeleno Funk which took a prestigious 3rd place at the Mayan Salsa Team Competitions in September 2009. Gonzalez can be found teaching at Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio and has various classes through out LA. |
