Simon Thomsen is a versatile and passionate drummer, hand percussionist and composer. The child of professional dancers, he is steeped in performance and the arts from birth. Simon's range is apparent in his diverse performance experience including invented instrument theatrical percussion
ensemble, Scrap Arts Music; pit orchestra for The Music Man; Pink Floyd’s The Wall; Metropolitan Wind Symphony and Cape Anne Symphony of Massachusetts; Afrobeat
Down, Los Angeles' premiere afrobeat ensemble, as well as club, session, corporate, festival and party gigs around his LA home and abroad in various
genres such as jazz, afro-latin, R&B, funk, rock and hip hop. His composition debut was made in 2001 with his original percussion ensemble piece, Junk. He
can be heard on the recording of Paul D. Lehrman's world premier production of George Anteil's Ballet Mechanique.
Since 2003, Simon has toured prominent international stages, sports arenas, festivals and night clubs such as Amsterdam's Royal Theatre Carre, The
Mondavi Center (Davis, CA), The Banff Centre For The Arts (Canada), The 2006 Commonwealth Games' Music Fest Melbourne and WOMAD (Australia), The Big
Bang Percussion Tour and Tromp Festivals (Netherlands), Forum Universal De Las Artes (Mexico), Festival Teatralia (Spain) where he has performed with world
class groups and musicians like Evely Glennie, Nexus Percussion Ensemble, Luis Conte, Bill Bruford, Talvin Singh and The Philiadelphia Chamber Orchestra.
He also conducts workshops, masterclasses and group or individual lessons for a variety of ages and abilities.
Simon received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from The University of Massachusetts, Lowell. He has studied with world-renown musicians Luis Conte,
Ed Shaughnessy, Jamey Hadad, Fred Buda and Jeff Fischer. |
